Two bear sightings were reported on campus on Sunday, Aug. 20. The first happened near Sneq’wa e’lun (Blue Heron House) and the lower lawn/waterfront in the morning, with the second sighting near the Recreation Centre, Cedar building and the CESIP/ Mews construction site in the evening. While there haven’t been additional reported sightings this week, Conservation officers have suggested we’re more likely to see bears this time of year as they search for berries and other food in preparation for winter.

With that in mind, please continue to use the buddy system and make your presence known when traveling around campus.

If you see a bear, stay calm and keep the animal in view, but avoid eye contact. Back away slowly, preferably in the direction you came. Walk, don't run, always keeping the bear in sight. Visit the BC Parks website for more information.

Please report sightings to Campus Security at 250-391-2525.
