Update from the VP Academic: CoIS and more



Please join me in extending a hearty THANK YOU to Dr. matthew heinz as he leaves his role as vice-provost, Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies effective Nov. 2 to return to RRU faculty. matt has been instrumental in guiding the college and graduate studies functions at Royal Roads by ensuring academic excellence in both teaching and research in the College of Interdisciplinary Studies, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across the university, and ensuring that excellent support structures are in place for theses and dissertations university wide.

As of Nov. 2, FSAS Dean Brigitte Harris has generously agreed to also serve as the dean of the College of Interdisciplinary Studies. Staff who support the CoIS programs will continue to report to College Manager, Carole Sandhu.

The university’s formal graduate dean responsibilities will be executed by the vice-president academic and provost (VPA). Theses and Dissertations Coordinator Janine Hughes will report directly to the VPA. Oversight of the thesis and dissertation process will be executed by Dr. Jo Axe, who will report directly to the VPA for this set of responsibilities. Additionally, the VPA will represent Royal Roads at the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies, the Western Association for Graduate Studies, and the Western Canadian Graduate Deans.
