Vancouver Canada Day speech by Marilyn Taylor
Marilyn Taylor, School of Leadership Studies, spoke to attendees of Vancouver’s Canada Day celebrations at Canada Place on “What do We, as Canadians, Want for our Future?” Drawing from the Canadian Values Conversations project, she spoke to trends of agreement in the values survey conducted last year. Caring and/or compassion were among the most frequently selected Canadian values no matter the gender, generation, region, household income, education, place of birth, ethnicity or geographical location of the participants. These personal values aligned with participants' hopes for a Canadian future where caring for the elderly, affordable housing, caring for the disadvantaged and caring for the environment are prioritized. The event, organized by Port Metro, the federal authority for Vancouver’s harbours, is the largest Canada Day event outside Ottawa.
