Web redesign project: First focus on tech

The Web redesign project of the Education Technology/Information Technology (ET/IT) plan has been in an exploration phase for many months now as information has been gathered on a range of aspects of this critical and complicated undertaking. Consultations with academic and non-academic units have begun, technical infrastructure needs have been examined and project planning has been rolling along.

As the initial project charter was coming together a request for proposals was issued and the project governance team selected three vendors who were invited to present to the team. A vendor was ultimately selected and discussions began to confirm the project contract. Through this process it was established that a good deal of work on the technological infrastructure will be required to move forward and it has now been determined that the first phase of the project will focus on creating a robust technical platform that will provide a solid foundation for future work. It is anticipated that this first phase will require until March 31, 2018. Major changes to content and presentation of the site will therefore emerge in 2018-2019.

In the meantime, IT Services will work to make amendments to the existing site as necessary and a web governance mechanism will be established to prioritize these. Work will also continue on identifying the needs of academic and service units and the many important functions that our web presence provides for us.
