Welcome Dr. Jaigris Hodson to the OIS Team

The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies in the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences is excited to welcome Dr. Jaigris Hodson to its team as Program Head for the MA and BA programs.

The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies in the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences is excited to welcome Dr. Jaigris Hodson to its team. Jaigris was the successful candidate for a probationary faculty position with the MA and BA in Interdisciplinary Studies programs and has been appointed program head for both programs. Originally from Vancouver Island, Jaigris graduated from Royal Roads with a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication and moved on to York University, from which she obtained a Master of Arts and a PhD in Communication and Culture. She currently works as an assistant professor and interim director of Launch Zone at Ryerson University and will join Royal Roads in August.

As an active scholar practitioner, Jaigris recently spent a year as a social media consultant with leading public relations firm, GCI Canada. Previous to her work at GCI, Jaigris completed a post-doc at Ryerson's office of the Vice President, Research, where she studied innovative approaches to technology use in higher education. Jaigris has published research in a wide range of academic publications including the Canadian Journal of Communication, Cultural Studies, Critical Methodologies, and Loading... Journal of the Canadian Game Studies Association. She has also published in non-academic publications such as The Evolllution and was a speaker at TEDX Victoria 2012.

Jaigris maintains an active role as a social media consultant, most currently working with the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) on the social media strategy for the internationally broadcast Canadian Country Music Awards. This year, she was awarded, as co-applicant, a SSHRC Knowledge Synthesis Grant to study the role of soft skills for Social Science and Humanities graduates in Canada.
