Wildlife awareness reminder

Jean Macgregor

Campus Security reminds students, staff and visitors that we share our 260-hectare campus with wildlife, and cougar sightings are not uncommon in campus woods and trails.

If you spot a cougar, do not attempt to make any contact with the animal. If you confront a cougar, project your image to be as large and loud as you can. Maintain eye contact and never run from a cougar. Once you have safety left the area, call Security to notify them of the sighting.

During times of cougar sightings on campus, use the buddy system when walking on trails and in wooded areas. Campus Security personnel patrol the campus 24 hours a day and can be called to escort students, visitors or staff to and from the parking areas.
