Vignettes from a Study Leave: Three Stories with Dr. Rick Kool January 17 , Noon to 1 p.m. Centre for Dialogue, LIC
During my recent study leave, spent partly in Victoria and in part at the Center for Social Studies at the Universidade de Coimbra in Portugal, I was able to complete two small writing projects and begin one larger one. I'll speak about the paper critiquing the language of 'best practice', and the paper that looks at sustainability through three experiences I've had with First Nations communities. Finally, I'll present parts of the small book that I'm trying to write based (tentatively) on six words that I think are important for environmental educators and communicators (and perhaps others too) to be clear about: truth, untruth, bullshit, stupidity, courage and actions. I'll also offer a bit of a feel for what it was like to live in a medieval city and walk daily to a university founded in 1290.
