Royal Roads celebrates Pride Week 2018 July 3 to 8
12 to 1 p.m. July 3: Royal Roads kicks off Pride Week 2018 celebrations with a free ice cream party in the Italian Gardens. Don’t miss out on some sweet treats! Register to join.
11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 4: Join us for the annual Royal Roads Pride Festival on the Castle Terrace Lawn. Enjoy games, music, photo booths and prizes! Burgers, chips and pop available for $5. Please RSVP online.
12 to 1 p.m. July 5: Students are invited to attend a Positive Space Network workshop, a fun and interactive workshop that includes discussion around language, culture and assumptions. Participants are introduced to skills and strategies that will help them create safer and more inclusive environments for all members of the Royal Roads community. Come for the engaging discussion and stay for the free pizza! Please register online.
5 to 7:30 p.m. July 6: Join us for a free viewing of PRIDE. This 2014 film was inspired by a true story about a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists who raised money to support the National Union of Mineworkers and their families. There will be free popcorn and pop! Register online.
10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8: Join us to celebrate Pride Week 2018 in the Victoria Pride Parade. The parade starts at 11 a.m. and makes its way down Government Street (starting at Pandora Avenue) and ends at MacDonald Park in James Bay at around 1 p.m. Fancy joining the most colourful parade of them all? Register online.
- Take part in the Fifth Annual RRU Proud Facebook photo contest. Share a photo of yourself at a Pride event in your city on Facebook. Tag @RRUStudentServices and use the hashtag #RRUProud to enter to win a RRU Proud T-shirt. Names will be drawn July 20, Aug. 20 and Sept. 20.
- As part of Royal Roads Pride Week, we are launching a colouring contest for students, staff and faculty. Starting July 2, you can pick up your contest sheet in the library or request one from Student Services. Completed sheets should be submitted by 12 p.m. Monday, July 9 at the library front desk or via email to Student Services. Entries will be posted on the Student Services Facebook page where people will be able to vote for the winners. Winners will be announced Friday, July 13.
- Throughout the week, an online Pride Padlet activity will be open to students, staff and faculty. Join the conversation and be entered to win a RRU Proud T-shirt. Draws will be held Monday July 9.
- How can we reduce barriers for members of the LGBTQ+ community? What can we do to create more inclusive communities at Royal Roads? Visit the Learning and Innovation Centre main floor and share your thoughts on one of the white boards. This activity will be ongoing throughout the week and open to students, staff and faculty. Join the conversation and be entered to win a RRU Proud T-shirt. Draws will be held Monday, July 9.
